UPDATE - DECEMBER 9, 2019

etfo and osstf escalate job action across the province - all kpdsb schools open, no expected closures at this time

UPDATE- The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) both announced escalated job action late last week. All of our schools are open to students, there are no anticipated closures due to job action at this time.

OSSTF - OSSTF has announced one-day strikes for Wednesday, December 11, at certain school boards around the province.  Our schools are NOT impacted by these strikes.  All KPDSB schools are open to students as usual unless otherwise notified.  Families should be aware that OSSTF members will hold information pickets during lunch hours and before and after school hours at some of our schools on December 11.

ETFO - ETFO has announced they will begin Phase 2 of their job action on Tuesday, December 10 (Phase 1 began on November 26, 2019, with a withdrawal of certain administrative work).  Phase 2 work-to-rule includes things like not planning any new field trips to occur before June 30, 2020, not serving as Teacher in Charge (used when administrators are not in schools), and not collecting monies or participating in the electronic collection of monies for school-based activities except those for charitable causes.

MY CHILD IS IN KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 8, what do i need to know?

There are currently two unions that have announced job action that may impact our elementary schools, the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF).  Please see below for details.

Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO)

Staff Represented by ETFO in KPDSB Elementary Schools: Elementary teachers, occasional teachers and designated early childhood educators.

Overview of Current Job Action - Phase 2 - Effective December 10, 2019 - ETFO has announced they will begin Phase 2 of their job action on Tuesday, December 10, in addition to Phase 1 work-to-rule (Phase 1 began on November 26, 2019, with a withdrawal of certain administrative work).  Phase 2 work-to-rule includes things like not planning any new field trips to occur before June 30, 2020, not serving as Teacher in Charge (used when administrators are not in schools), and not collecting monies or participating in the electronic collection of monies for school-based activities except those for charitable causes.

Overview of Current Job Action - Phase 1 - Effective November 26, 2019: ETFO has stated that the announced work-to-rule action will target Ministry of Education and school board administrative tasks. This means ETFO staff in our schools are withdrawing from certain administrative activities/work for the duration of the work-to-rule action.  This includes things like participation in any school board or Ministry of Education professional learning offered outside of the instructional day, participation in any Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) related activities and not attending staff/division/grade team meetings.  For more information, please see our notice to families by clicking here.

Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF)

Staff Represented by OSSTF in KPDSB Elementary Schools: Education Assistants and office, clerical, library and occasional staff.

Overview of Current Job Action: OSSTF has stated that the announced work-to-rule action will be a limited withdrawal of services. This means OSSTF staff in our schools will no longer perform certain duties including participating in EQAO preparation or testing, completing Ministry of Education reports, and participating in unpaid staff meetings outside the scheduled school day.  For more information, please see our notice to families by clicking here.
