On this page, you will find information regarding job action in our schools for the 2019-2020 school year. The information below has been separated into three sections - important updates, elementary and secondary - to assist students and families in finding the information that pertains to them.

IMPORTANT UPDATES

UPDATE - march 2, 2020 – ALL KPDSB SCHOOLS (elementary and secondary) open to students march 2-6, 2020  

At this time, there are no planned strike days for the week of March 2-6, 2020.  All of our schools (elementary and secondary) are OPEN to students. 

UPDATE - FEBRUARY 11, 2020 – sECONDARY (gRADES 9-12) tERM oNE rEPORT cARDS

As you are aware, secondary educators are currently engaged in job action in Ontario. This means that they can legally withdraw services, up to and including a full withdrawal (strike).

Part of the job action announced by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) states that teachers will not input comments on provincial report cards.  We wanted to inform our secondary families that the Term One provincial report card will be issued to families on February 13, 2020, with your child’s grades/marks on it; however, the report card will not include comments from your child’s teachers.  Similarly, alternative report cards for special education students will be issued, but with limited comments.

UPDATE - JANUARY 24, 2020 – ELEMENTARY (KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 8) TERM ONE REPORT CARDS

As you are aware, elementary educators are currently engaged in job action in Ontario. This means that they can legally withdraw services, up to and including a full withdrawal (strike).

Part of the job action announced by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) states that teachers will not input marks/grades and comments on provincial report cards.  At this time, our elementary schools are not able to issue the Kindergarten Communication of Learning or the Grade 1-8 provincial report cards for Term One.  This also includes alternative report cards for special education students.  We are not able to provide a timeline for when Term One report cards may be available to families at this time.

UPDATE - JANUARY 13, 2020 - ETFO Escalates Job Action to Phase 3 Across the Province

Late last week, the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) announced they would escalate job action in Ontario schools to Phase 3, beginning on Monday, January 13, 2020.  ETFO members in KPDSB schools include elementary teachers, occasional teachers and designated early childhood educators.  Phase 3 does impact extracurricular activities in our elementary schools.

UPDATE - JANUARY 9, 2020 - Grade 9 EQAO math assessment for January 2020

Please be aware that Grade 9 students currently taking math courses in semester one in KPDSB secondary schools will not be participating in the annual Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) Grade 9 Math Assessment this January.

MY CHILD IS IN KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 8, what do i need to know?

There are currently two unions that have announced job action that may impact our elementary schools, the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF).  Please see below for details.

PLEASE NOTE - At this time, our elementary schools are not able to issue the Kindergarten Communication of Learning or the Grade 1-8 provincial report cards for Term One due to ongoing job action.  This also includes alternative report cards for special education students.
