What is the Energy Management Program?

The Energy Management Program is an energy retrofit program being implemented by the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) as part of its commitment to creating greener schools.

Under the Energy Management Program, future energy savings cover the costs of energy upgrade, or retrofit, projects. This is done through an Energy Management Service Contract (EMSC).

The program is implemented in partnership with MCW, an energy management service contractor who is providing:

  • Project management and engineering services
  • Performance monitoring
  • Ongoing program assurance
  • A savings guarantee, ensuring that the anticipated energy savings will be realized

These energy upgrade projects will provide healthier and more comfortable indoor environments for staff and students, and will significantly reduce:

  • CO2 emissions
  • Water consumption
  • Operating costs, making more money available for other priorities

Energy management

The Energy Management Program also creates a unique opportunity for environmental education and awareness. For example:

  • The green technologies being installed can become teaching tools for the math, science and environmental curriculum.
  • End-users of the facilities become more aware of energy conservation issues.
